Hydraulic drive has been widely used and applied for industrial applications because of large power density and quick response. On a viewpoint of energy consumption and environmental compatibility, hydraulic drive systems have an important problem for energy efficiency and downsizing. In this paper, we have developed an energy saving type of an electro-hydraulic servo system with a portable hydraulic power source. In the portable power source a small fixed displacement pump is driven by a torque and a speed controlled ac servomotor. LThe pump supplies hydraulic power to the electro-hydrualic servo system according to the required torque and speed of the ac servomotor. The validity of the deveoped system for control performance and energy-savings has been experimentally verified.
