Research on Surface Forming and Virtual Model of Simulation Based on IGES

In order to realize the data transmission between general modeling software and 3D virtual simulation system and real time interaction with simulation model, the topological information of Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) had been deeply studied, the storage structure of all geometry elements' information had been put forward, the process of converting the general surface of revolution to NURBS surface had been derived in detail. The data structure and program algorithm according to IGES had been programmed, which is developed on the Visual C++ platform. The structural bodies for different geometry elements had been defined and encapsulated into classes. The surface formation based on IGES file and the interactions with the virtual model were realized by means of OpenGL Graphics Library. It embodied the advantages of taking surface as entity in constructing 3D model. This program read an IGES file with file size about 2M and the model was displayed successfully.
