This research is the continuation of the suggestionrnfrom a representative in OGRINDO, a researchrnconsortium in the Bandung Institute of Technologyrnunder the financial support of oil and servicerncompanies to use an epoxy-based polymer for waterrnshut-off application after its success in sand controlrnapplications. In sand control, epoxy bonds to the sandrngrains and is the main compound in the solidificationrnprocess of unconsolidated sand, where the viscosityrnchange in the epoxy resin is also fulfilling thernfunction of a water shut-off agent. The epoxy-basedrnsubstance is synthesised with a hardenerrn(triethylenetetraamine) in a 50:50 concentration inrnacetone.rnGelation time is a key parameter in water shut-offrnapplications because the composed substance mustrnbe lean at the time of injection (this experimentrnresults 2 cP), then it becomes dramatically morernviscous in an extreme mode after particular period,rncalled the gelation time (point).rnThis gelation parameter is measured periodicallyrnusing a Fann-VG and Rheometer and visuallyrnobserved in transparent bottle so that the observerrncould easily do surveillance of the substance’srnfluidity by shaking and reversing the bottle’srnposition. An initial study shows that 50% (v/v) ofrnepoxy and 50% (v/v) of hardener diluted in acetonernresults 7 days (168 hours gelation time) afterrnexposure to atmosphere conditions.
