THE APPLICATION OF CAPILLARY COLUMNS IN PROCESS GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY - PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

The development of fused silica capillary columns with chemically bonded and crosslinked phases has added new dimension to the performance of process Gas Chromatographs. Increased capability in separating powers and speed of analysis are now available for on line process monitoring applications. This paper will discuss the relationship between column efficiency, speed of analysis and sensitivity and the factors which must be considered in optimizing an application to the requirements of on line process monitoring. Examples are given of typical applications and some of the problems encountered in implementing capillary columns in those applications.
