A hierarchical approach appears to possess a great potential for developing physical models of technological processes and corresponding equipment in mineral beneficiation. Such models can involve, for example, different rates of different steps of the processes. The general scheme of developing such models is presented. As example, the approach under consideration is used to deveop a model of segregation of granular material consisting of particles of different mechanical properties acted on by vibration. Also, the model of vibrational screening is suggested. Some other cases of successful application of this approach are noted.
