In this paper, infra-red (IR) spectroscopy is used to determine the changes of functional group in base asphalt between pre-aging and post-aging, pre-recycling and post-recycling. IR spectroscopy figures of aged asphalt from RTFOT for different aging cycles with different rejuvenating agent contents are compared, and the changing rule of functional group in base asphalt including chemical composition is revealed with heat or adding rejuvenating agent, the recycling mechanisms of aged asphalt is described as chemical structure. This paper has provided an available basis for use of recycling asphalt.
