The aim of this work is to develop a solvent mixture for effective dissolution of epoxy encapsulants. A mixture consisting of high boiling oxygenated solvent, potassium hydroxide, an amine catalyst and Triton X-100 was found to be efective in dissolving epoxies at the rate of 5.2mg/min, 5.0mg/min, 4.0mg/min and 2.4mg/min at 110 deg, 100 deg, 90 deg and 80 deg, respectively. The influence of different amine catalysts on dissolution rate was examined, and a derivative of imidazole referred to as C-amine catalyst was found to be the best catalyst for dissolving the epoxy resins. The dissolution rate of our mixture at 80 deg was found to be comparable to that of a commercial product known as URESOLVE at 110 deg.
