LEARNING PATHS AND ONLINE COMMUNITIES IN EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES

The paper describes the learning process as it is normallyrnimplemented through Learning Management systemsrnand, in some cases, through the usage of SCORMrnpackages, compared with the implementation obtainablernby using a virtual community system and a specific set ofrntools that we grouped under the name of “learning path”.rnTesting large scale implementation of virtual communitiesrnsystems, we noticed that SCORM editors on one side, andrnavailable tools for full-online or blended learning werernnot sufficiently flexible and reusable as expected,rnespecially in the design phase where the educationalrndesigner and/or the teachers are more involved. Werntherefore decided to overcome some limitations that arernspecific of SCORM standard and tools, and to create arnnew service in our platform, a kind of meta-SCORMrncontainer, that includes SCORM packages and otherrnlearning materials, thus allowing to prepare complex,rnarticulated, ruled-based, multi-path and multi-userrnlearning paths..
