We describe our training method for educating children inrninformation skills they need for living in the Web2.0rnsociety. We defined an information and communicationrntechnology (ICT) standard for K-12 students andrndeveloped two incremental training methods to meet thisrnstandard. The particular skills we evaluated wererninformation conveying skills.rnThe training method has two unique points. First wernintroduced a new collaborative knowledge-sharing tool,rncalled the multidatabase module, to help guide students tornproperly express and share their knowledge. We also usedrnactual worksheets and tags (Post-it notes) to enablernstudents to comment on other students' work throughrnface-to-face collaboration.rnBy blending face-to-face and virtual collaborativernactivities, we show that ICT beginners can rapidly makernprogress.rnWe assessed the effectiveness of this method by usingrnit to train 240 first year junior high students. Over 90% ofrnthe students, considered as beginners in terms of Internetrnand PC skills, learned how to convey informationrneffectively over the web.
