Study on Numeralization Methods of Designing Patterns for Knitted Sweaters

摘要

To solve the bottleneck problem with pattern design in knitting sweaters industry, we studied the numeralization design methods to generate patterns automatically based on mathematical theory. Both elementary function and Mandelbrot set which is one of the most famous fractals, are adopted to establish models. By using VB program, pattern could be generated automatically. The generated patterns were edited with image processing software such as Photoshop if needed, and then put on any location of clothes to show fashion effect. With the help of knitting CAD software, actual knitted structures were simulated. With elementary function, there are plenty of patterns created with inputting different coefficient values. With Mandelbrot set, there are also lots of patterns created by selecting different locations of its image or extending generalized Mandelbrot sets. Here we have adopted two kinds of mathematical models to create patterns. In fact, there are many other forms about elementary functions and fractals, so the numeralization methods have greater potential applications in knitted pattern design.
