Analysis of Degradation by On-Off Test in Ceramic Metal-Halide Lamp

Recently, Ceramic metal-halide lamp using PCA arc tube has been developed, and the lamps are being used in various ranges such as street lighting, stage lighting, projector and industrial lighting. Therefore, the study about reliability of lamp and degradation are regarded as an important part. In this paper, to know the affection of arc tube from Accelerated degradation test in ceramic metal-halide lamp, structural and optical properties of lamp were measured for 2,000 hours with 20 minute On/Off test based on the reliability standard RSC 0085. As results, blackening phenomena have occurred as degradation of the arc tube and electrode. Also, structural distortion has happened as change of vapour pressure inside the arc tube. In addition, the color temperature and color rendering index were changed as loss of gas composition.
