This work is to examine the feasibility of using MVCrnStereo High Profile for full-resolution stereoscopic highdefinitionrn3D video applications, such as 3D broadcastrnand streaming. The simulations and evaluation results arernintended to serve as a reference on how much bitraternincrease is required to include the second view for qualityrnHD 3D video applications. MVC compression has beenrnsimulated on nine 3D video clips selected from animationrnand live action shots including progressive and interlacedrnmaterial. A wide range of combined bitrates running fromrn12.6Mbps to 24Mbps have been used. The results ofrnsubjective picture quality evaluation suggested that, asrncompared to 2D, a 20~25% bitrate increase would providernsatisfactory picture quality in HD 3D video applications.
