Expeditiously escalating need for the wireless communication puts forward the challenge of efficient spectrum utilization. The cognitive networks paradigm gives a tremendous provision to considerably influence and shift the implementation of underwater acoustic networks for an efficient utilization of acoustic spectrum. The capacity of underwater acoustic communication is intrinsically constrained by the sparse underwater acoustic spectrum exhibiting the varying characteristics spatiotemporally. In underwater sensor networks, the unique and highly challenging nature of underwater acoustic spectrum opens the avenue to utilize the Spectrum-Aware communications. The techniques of Opportunistic Spectrum Access (OSA) and Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) poses a need for a deeper understanding of the variations occurring in acoustic channel capacity. So, this paper is intended to develop a differential sensitivity model of the acoustic channel capacity keeping in consideration a variety of independent variables in a highly varying underwater environment. This paper aims to provide a sensitivity analysis of the acoustic channel capacity for a better understanding of the Spectrum-Aware underwater networks and its refined implementation.
