DETECTION OF EMOTIONS AND STRESS THROUGH SPEECH ANALYSIS

The term “stress” is referred to a psychological state, obtainedrnin response to a situation which is accompanied byrnan emotional reaction, such as, for instance, anxiety, anger,rnsadness, etc. Emotions are psychophysiological reactionsrnrepresenting modes of adaptation to certain either environmentalrnstimuli or own stimuli. They are those feelings orrnperceptions of the elements and relations of the reality andrnthe imagination, which are physically expressed by somernphysiological functions, like, for example, facial reactions,rnchanges in heartbeat or distortions in the paralinguistic aspectsrnof speech. Although both stress and emotional staterndo not alter the linguistic content, they could affect the paralinguisticrncontents of speech and this is an important factorrnin human communication, because it provides more informationrnabout the interlocutor than the merely semanticrnone.rnThis subliminal information of speech is analyzed in thisrnpaper. Throughout the present document many features andrnalgorithms are studied, which are combined to obtain anrnemotion and stress detector with a high degree of reliability.
