The effective analysis of three-dimensional biomedical images has application in a wide variety of medical applications, ranging from the analysis of unborn foetuses for heart defects to the facial reconstruction of murder victims. However, currently employed feedback techniques concerning analysis of three-dimensional image structures are themselves presented in the visual domain. This paper presents an overview of a research project in which information is presented in the aural domain as a compliment to the visualization process. Spatial audio or stereo audio techniques are employed for the task. The system implementation has been based around a number of established public domain software elements, including the Xforms graphical user interface software, the Bob visualization package, and the Csound audio control language system.
