Power Quality Monitoring -Too Little? Too late? Too much? And what are we going to do with all that data anyway?

This paper discusses the past, present and future of Power Quality Monitoring from a Data Center Building Manager's perspective. The technology available to us today is incredible. The tools we have at our disposal enable us to dissect a sine wave down to the most minute detail. We can look at the harmonics content of our voltage and current out to the umpteenth harmonic. We can determine exactly when, where and why a voltage fluctuation occurred. We can graphically depict phase angle relationships. But how much of this stuff is really important to the Building Manager, and how much is just plain fluff?
