Variations in day to day operations (load ranges, fuel, temperature, etc.) can lead to difficulties maintaining compliance with Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (MATS). Operational changes along with variability in injection systems, instrumentation, and control strategy can lead to higher than predicted Hg rolling averages, and even noncompliance events. To stay in compliance when higher than normal numbers exist, fast, accurate, and reliable troubleshooting must be conducted to identify what has changed, how it is affecting Hg compliance, and actions that must be taken to maintain MATS compliance. Oftentimes, this troubleshooting and resolution must be completed within a week to ensure compliance. Midwest Energy Emissions Corp (ME_2 C) has expanded field analysis and emission testing services to support any utility with current or pending needs for reliable data and solutions to maintain MATS compliance. The paper focuses on a 1 -week case study that describes the process of problem identification/analysis to solution implementation for a plant that was suddenly challenged in meeting its Hg 30 day rolling average.
