In today's power plant environment the production of power at the right time and with lowest production costs is a necessity to keep the plant competitive. To achieve this, it is important to have an up to date knowledge on the state of the power plant. A suite of online monitoring modules installed on top of the already existing plant control network can provide this information.rnLike this it is possible to monitor the actual power generation of the plant and compare it with a reference provided by the online performance calculation module. The comparison enables to assess the performance status of each modeled component. Knowing about the state of the component enables to identify improvement potential and to generate power at the highest efficiency. With a "What If calculation it is possible to predict the daily power output based on the power plant model.rnUsing an online module that also incorporates data validation makes it possible to identify wrong measurement signals and allows to optimize calibration intervals of the instruments.rnHaving knowledge about the status of the components also helps to optimize the maintenance outages by having the right information (e.g. state of generator stator, need for welding, ...) at the right time. The commercial availability can further be improved by the optimization of the compressor washing intervals as the performance loss due to compressor fouling is known.rnThe Risk Mitigation Modules help to manage the risks of failure of the main equipment by analyzing key figures for each component and therefore reduce the uncertainty of the status of the component. The modules enable to trend the development over time and can therefore help to predict the parameter allowed limits.rnThis paper will give an overview about the analyzing and diagnostic tools installed on a ALSTOM Power plant to improve the operation and maintenance of the plant. The architecture of the online monitoring system with its own HMI, real time database, diagnostic modules and interface to the control system and respectively Plant Support Centre will be shown and explained.
