Growing competitive pressure forces power generators worldwide to use potentials in full inrnorder to cut production and maintenance costs and increases profits from sales. Besidesrnmechanical engineering and process technology it is software that plays an increasinglyrnimportant role. Information technology now sets the pace for innovations, especially when thernobjective is increasing profits.rnMeanwhile, there is a multitude of sensible IT solutions, all of which provide a certainrnbenefit. And integrating these solutions can immensely increase the overall benefit. However,rnsuccess remains uncertain unless the solutions are combined with effective strategies andrnproven concepts.rnThe focus must be the whole process of executing such an IT project from the initialrndefinition of the business goals through the analysis, planning and design phases up to thernactual implementation and continuing support, training and service. This comprehensivernapproach must be complemented by integrated IT solutions capable of combining andrnevaluating data from all sources of the technical processes, operation and maintenance as wellrnas the commercial environment.rnThe authors will demonstrate today's standard of IT solutions in a modern power plant on thernexample of Zhunge’er Power station (coal-fired, 2~*330MW) in Inner Mongolia.
