Detailed modeling, analysis and simulation in the early stages of design reduce the hardware testing phase to a simple design validation process. The design validation step is important to build confidence in the design tools. Hardware prototyping for validation is simplified with rapid prototyping tools like dSPACE. DSPACE is productive because it interfaces directly to the simulation tool, Simulink, and also because the rapid prototyping hardware provides many the hardware functions needed to demonstrate the operation of solid state power converters (real time processor, A/D converters, digital I/O, etc.).
