The new conception of elastic behaviour of powders and green porous billets is suggested. Unlike to conventional approaches the macroscopic constitutive equations for elastic behaviour are sensitive to loading/straining paths, in particular to the difference between tension and compression. The opportunity of volume changes during the action of tangential stresses (the dilatation) can be described. Some peculiarities of elastic waves propagation are considered. Beltrami hypothesis is used to formulate the yield condition for given type of materials. Yield contour corresponds to experimental results obtained by A.Cocks and L.Shcnider and results of micromechanical study ( N.Fleck). Plastic model can be used to explain the failure during the die - compaction.
