In order to assess the capability of models of the powder compaction process, well characterised case studies are required. Information is required for input to models on press kinematics, tool deflections and die fill density and its distribution. For assessment of model predictions, information is required on press loads, part density distribution and part defect distribution. This paper presents guidelines for these measurements based on experience in the European DIENET project in the production and assessment of ferrous, hardmetal, ceramic and magnet components. A specific example is given of production and assessment of a ferrous flanged bushing.
