The higher output and faster speed of automotive engines in recent years has increased the drive torque of the camshaft, leading to an increased load on engine sprockets. However, the conventional sintered sprocket is not strong enough to bear this load, and a sprocket with higher strength is needed. Two years ago, the Toyota Group developed a low-cost high strength sintered material capable of being produced by mesh belt sinter. This was accomplished by using Toyota's warm die wall lubricating technology to mold low-cost alloyed powder at a high density. The technology was applied to sprockets for new engine models, thus achieving the world's first sprocket mass produced through warm compaction using die wall lubricating technology.
