An alternative PM consolidation method consisting in a double cycle of cold pressing and vacuum sintering has been developed in our laboratory. The aim of the present investigation is to simplify this new consolidation method, from the original five steps to only three steps. This would be possible by previous annealing, at high temperature, of the MA powders. The mechanical properties of compacts (hardness at room and high temperature, ultimate tensile strength and elongation) obtained by the three-step and the five-step processing are comparable. This process could be of special interest for the manufacturing of large series of small MA Al parts, such as are used in automotive industry.
