A comprehensive study on the available water supply and distribution system; alongrnwith the pipeline repair data due to 12 November, 1999 Duzce Earthquake (Mw=7.2)rnhas been carried out. Correlations of the observed damage patterns with the system,rnground motion parameters and geotechnical characteristics have been evaluated.rnGeneric soil profiles were used in conducting 1-D equivalent linear site responsernanalyses; which served as a basis for the estimation of liquefaction triggeringrnpotential and liquefaction induced ground deformations. A maximum likelihoodrnbased model for the probabilistic assessment of seismically induced buried pipelinernperformance was developed. The proposed model uses liquefaction induced groundrnsettlements, peak ground acceleration and soft layer thickness as descriptivernvariables. The current model yields an unbiased estimate of observed damage raternthroughout Duzce; and is valid for consequences of permanent ground settlementsrndue to liquefaction, rather than tectonically or landslide induced damage to pipelines.rnProviding an improved fragility model that also accounts for the ground responsernrelated effects is believed to establish a greater level of reliability during riskrnplanning against future hazards.
