Recently, ground subsidence caused by excessive water pumping has inflicted damage in many Asian cities, including Bangkok, Thailand. When end-supported piles (henceforth "ESP") are used in these areas, destruction of the pile due to negative skin friction and lifeline damage associated with differential settlements between the foundation and ground surface are commonly observed. IESP are equipped with intermediate characteristics of friction piles and ESP by the presence of a small gap between the pile tip and a bearing layer. To prevent damage, it is suggested that Incompletely End-Supported Piles (henceforth "IESP") be used in such areas. This study simulates IESP and ESP subject to influence from settling ground by using centrifuge model tests to clarify the mechanical behavior of IESP. It is confirmed from centrifuge model tests that IESP has the effect of decreasing negative friction and differential settlements during ground settlement.
