The Way to Zero Stand-By Power for Modern Power Supply Units – New Ways to Save Energy

The continuous increase in the use of technology brings modern humanity to the strong necessity tornoptimize the use of resources and energy, in order to reduce massive drawbacks such as global warming,rnpollution and waste. In the year 2005 the European Community released the EuP directivern2005/32/EC with the objective to define a framework for the release of standards for the ecodevelopmentrnneeded in the next future. On the 17th of December 2008 the European Community releasedrnthe regulation no. 1275/2008, which prescribes new off mode and standby mode powers forrnseveral categories of energy consuming products (EuPs). Scope of this paper is to present several solutionsrnto achieve and exceed the prescriptions of the standards considering also zero power solutions.
