摘要

The influence of a rotating magnetic field on convection in a Rayleigh-Benard configuration was experimentally and numerically investigated. Temperature measurements for different Rayleigh and magnetic Taylor numbers were carried out in a cylindrical test cell filled with liquid gallium. The experimental results were compared to 3D time-dependent numerical simulations. The main result of our study is that it is possible to significantly damp temperature fluctuations caused by time-dependent buoyancy driven convection using a rotating magnetic field.
