Die casting engineers are interested in the heat flow for controlling solidification as well as die temperature and hence, die life. Though numerical simulation is useful for that purpose, die casting poses a special difficulty that the mold temperature changes as casting cycle is repeated. Methods of analysis of this problem used in the past can be divided into two broad groups.
