Asynchronous exposure control of a line scan camera

Abstract: machine vision automated inspection applications a line scan camera is used to acquire image data from a moving object as it is passed beneath a controlled light source. The geometry between the line scan camera and the controlled light source is chosen in such a way as to emphasize certain object characteristics. In most cases the object is translated linearly. Because of this motion, image blurring may take place if the camera's exposure is not properly controlled. This paper describes the method by which an ordinary line scan camera can be 'tricked' into providing independent exposure control using this technique.!2
