Abstract: In this paper, optical fibers are applied to study artificial joints of human beings. The experimental results of strain and optical fibers are very useful for medical design of artificial joints. The stress distributions and the stress concentration factors of the femur of total hip artificial joint which has been used in clinical practice may be significant in the study of Biomechanics and the design of artificial joints.!
