Approach for automatic relative orientation

Abstract: An approach is described for automatic relativeorientation of a stereo pair of digital aerial images.Feature-based and area-based image-matching techniquesare combined to automate the procedure of determinationof conjugate points in the images. A coarse-to-finestrategy (image pyramids) and robust estimationtechniques are incorporated into the approach. It wasdeveloped as one of the automation- oriented softwarecomponents of a digital photogrammetric workstation.Results obtained from practical examples are presentedand evaluated. !13
