The Mahogany field in Trinidad and Tobago was developed asrna dedicated gas field with reserves of 2.6 TCF to supply gas tornthe Atlantic LNG Plant in 1999. At that time the field was thernsole provider of gas to the ALNG project. The vision was tornensure that the field was a world class producer that met therndemands on the LNG Train 1 market. It was clear from thernonset that the only way to deliver this vision was through thernuse of technology. Even more so since the field is a highlyrnfaulted, complex reservoir, that has a thin oil rim.rnWith over 1TCF of gas already produced, thernMahogany Team is on its way to delivering this result.rnTechnology has been the backbone of the Mahogany fieldrndevelopment, with new technology being used from inceptionrnthrough drilling, reservoir monitoring and production. Thisrnintimate surveillance of the wells through new technology hasrngenerated a wealth of information. Updated simulation modelsrnhave been generated using this data, which have led to arndeeper understanding of the dynamic fluid distribution in therncomplicated reservoirs. This in turn has been the critical factorrnin the successful infill development of the field. It is clear thatrnone of the critical success factors in managing therndevelopment and exploitation of the field was the use ofrntechnology.rnThis paper will discuss the use of technology alongrnthe value chain of first drill to present and will highlight thernreal benefits of using technology along the way, primarilyrnhighlighting the successful use of fiber optic flowmeters,rndistributed temperature system, acoustic sand detectors andrnpermanent downhole gauges.
