The Truss Spar is a new floating platform concept that isrnrapidly becoming one of the preferred systems for developingrndeepwater Gulf of Mexico fields. The Truss Spar provides arnstable, cost-effective platform for dry-tree completions over arnwide range of water depths. The Truss Spar is an extension ofrntechnology developed on previous “Classic” Spar projects, butrnhas several specific advantages. These advantages werernexploited to provide a fit-for-purpose platform solution for thernNansen/Boomvang Field Development. This paper describesrnthe design of the Truss Spars for the Nansen/Boomvang FieldrnDevelopment. The paper reviews the Truss Spar concept, pastrndevelopment work, and comparison with the Classic Sparrnconcept. The paper describes the specific Nansen/Boomvangrnproject requirements and design criteria and how theyrninfluenced the platform configuration. The paper includesrnsummaries of analysis results for global motions, mooringrndesign, and hull structural design. The paper also includes arndescription of unique design features, including heave plates,rnSCR pulltubes, hard tank-to-truss connections, and toptensionedrnriser guides. These novel features, and otherrntechnology proven on the Nansen/Boomvang project, arernreadily transferable to other Truss Spars now under design.
