Background to New Edition of API Bulletin 2V: Design of Flat Plate Structures

API Bulletin 2V – Design of Flat Plate Structures, has recentlyrnbeen revised. This paper discusses the changes made to thernbulletin and references test data to support these changes.rnParticular effort has been made in the areas of bi-axialrncompression with lateral pressure, and bi-axial compressionrnwith or without edge shear. Design factors of safety havernbeen addressed to improve consistency with other establishedrncodes of practice. In addition, the bulletin has been updated tornprovide guidelines for the use of finite elements analysis as thernprimary source of expected stress information. Thernphilosophy of hierarchical design has been formally includedrninto the bulletin. Consistency in variable names and formulasrnhas been sought in an effort to improve user friendliness.rnObservations on areas for future research are made.
