For more than a decade, subsea technology has been perceivedrnas delivering innovative, reliable and cost effective solutionsrnto oil & gas exploitation opportunities. This is reflected in thernnumber of fields, where subsea technology is employed andrncontinues to grow. BP’s subsea developments in the UnitedrnKingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) and Gulf of Mexicorn(GoM) have not however been fault-free. Problems associatedrnwith design, metallurgy, quality and operation have impactedrnprimarily on control systems performance.rnAlthough subsea production losses are relatively low inrnproportion to non-subsea, the cost of failure is significantlyrnhigher. These problems are collectively being classified underrnsystem reliability. Future confidence in subsea technologyrncould be undermined if deepwater system problems continuernto be encountered and poor system reliability continues.rnIn order to mitigate problems on deepwater developments,rnBP initiated a Deepwater subsea reliability strategy project inrnlate 1999 with Cranfield University and key subsearnequipment manufacturers. The study identified a number ofrnkey processes and tools needed to support BP’s deepwaterrnreliability vision and define tasks necessary to move the visionrnforward.rnThis paper examines the development of BP's deepwaterrnsubsea reliability strategy and identifies, implementationrnprogress made to date
