Cables and pipelines are buried in deepwater to providernthermal insulation, on-bottom stability and physicalrnprotection. In the soft soils associated with deepwater regionsrncable ploughs and ROV based jet trenchers are the toolsrnof choice.rnThe Offshore Engineering Division of the Coflexip StenarnOffshore (CSO) Group and Perry Slingsby Systems haverncontributed significantly to the development of deepwaterrncable and pipeline burial systems. Significant resourcesrncontinue to be allocated to geotechnical research programmesrnto support product developments.rnThis paper discusses the key technical issues with respect torndeepwater cable and pipeline burial. The state-of-the-art ofrngeotechnical engineering and research, and it’s application tornnew burial product developments, is also presented.
