In order to demonstrate the impact of ultrafiltration (UF) on the fouling rate and cleaning intervals ofnanofiltration (NF) membranes in seawater sulfate removal application, GE conducted a two-year longdemonstration in Singapore. GE's ZW700B UF and SWSR NF membranes were used for this study.The evaluation was conducted in two phases. During Phase 1, pretreated seawater with SDI between 2.5and 4.5 was used as feed. During Phase 2, water was pre-treated with the ZW700B UF membrane to yieldan SDI of less than 2, before being fed to the NF sulfate removal unit.
