Effective integrated water management and resource recovery requires an acknowledgement of the interconnectivity between upstream wastewater treatment and downstream processes and applications. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss drivers, treatment, and cyclical relationships specific to different reuse scenarios using three case studies. Case studies demonstrate the limitations that may be imposed on non-potable and potable reuse potential by the cyclical nature of other reuse applications (e.g., industrial cooling), as well as the importance of biological nutrient removal and a detailed understanding of wastewater variability in potable reuse configurations.
