Verification of Aircraft Acoustic Source Data for the Aviation Environmental Design Tool

The Federal Aviation Administration’s Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) includes source data for more than 290 unique aircraft. Most of the acoustic data are developed by aircraft manufacturers, acoustic consultants and the model developers, and while much of the data originate from noise certification flight tests, different acoustic measurement and data processing methodologies are often used to develop these database submittals. For this reason, all new database submittals are evaluated according to the AEDT database submittal verification process in order to insure consistency and ensure the integrity of the database. The acoustic source data review portion of the AEDT database submittal verification process for fixed wing aircraft is discussed and common acoustic data development issues are identified.
