Community Response to Blast Noise

Although community response to impulsive noise from military operations is usually discussedrnfor NEPA (National Environment Policy Act) related purposes in terms of the prevalence ofrnannoyance, it is managed on a local, daily basis in terms of numbers of recent complaints.rnReconciling blast noise complaint rates with the annoyance predicted by dosage-effect analysisrnwould be of considerable benefit to the military, since it would provide insight into the dynamicsrnof community reaction to this distinctive form of noise exposure, and put its assessment andrnmanagement on a common footing. This paper describes a systematic approach to the challengesrnof quantifying community reaction to blast noise.
