The emission sound levels have been the manufacturer’s best effort to disclose the acousticrnperformance of their products. The emission sound power level is a very important attribute since itrnenables apple to apple comparison of different products. The emission sound pressure level isrninadequate in representing the in-situ immission sound pressure level that the end-users care the most. Itrnis important to note that the immission sound pressure level could be estimated from the emission soundrnpower level. The essential information is the property of the environment and the placement of thernequipment in that environment and the location of noise receiver. Such information could be defined byrnthe manufacturer based on extensive marketing and engineering research. Or it could be defined casernby case for the specific end-user environment. The acoustic standard committee for the IT industry couldrnhelp standardize the parameters of several typical usage environments and provide ways forrnmanufacturer to derive the immission sound pressure level for the end-users of the products.
