The very low emission levels of the HDD industry make characterization of transient eventsrnthat are not impulsive in nature very difficult. Non-stationary Loudness can be a useful tool forrnidentifying problem units on the production line and even for R&D purposes. However, there is nornagreed upon standard of measuring and calculating this metric. The usefulness of this methodrnhas proven to be a great enabler for the HDD industry that must do QA/QC on mass quantityrnlevels. The data can be further analyzed and limits and specs imposed upon the resultant data torndetermine whether or not units are shippable to customers.
