摘要

It has been shown that with a ceramic envelope it is possible to realize metal halide automotive headlamps, which can be applied in reflectors without any shielding. In comparison with quartz lamps the lamp power is considerably lower. This not only results in energy saving but also in less UV and IR radiation, which is favorable for plastic headlights. The lower lamp power and the lower run-up current also lead to a considerably smaller and cheaper ballast. In order to come to a robust product design and improved optical performance the ceramic material should be further improved.
