In this paper, the effect of in-plane waves on the power flow in coupled platernstructures is examined. An exact solution to describe the structural response isrnpresented using a combination of the modal method and the travelling wave method.rnThe travelling wave approach for flexural vibration has been extended to includernboth in-plane longitudinal and in-plane shear waves. Results are presented using thernstructural intensity expression, and are compared with those obtained ignoring the inplanerncontributions. It is shown that when the in-plane vibration is not included in thernanalysis, the transmitted power levels are significantly underestimated.
