As fiber optic networks continue to rapidly evolve, an emphasis is placed on system flexibility.This is evident with the increased demand to reconfigure at almost any joining point. Connectorsare now being installed for joints that would have been fusion spliced just three years ago. Withthe installation of broadband networks, which will operate at or above OC-48 (2.4 Gbits/second)transmission rates, these connectors must provide reliable performance in a “true” outside plantenvironment. Results will be presented that show with control of connector endface geometry,insertion loss and reflectance performance can be maintained in humid, condensing environments.
