THE USE OF THE HIGH AIR-SPEED BLOWN-CABLE SYSTEM FOR PLACING OPTICAL-FIBER CABLES IN INNERDUCT

The high air-speed blown-cable (HASB) system represents an advantageous meansfor placing conventional optical-fiber cables within innerduct in various outside plantapplications. No concentrated pulling forces are used and corresponding cableplacement distances are relatively insensitive to route bends and curvature. However,the cables and innerduct systems are subject to new types of stresses, necessitatingexisting generic requirements documents to be updated and new practices to becreated. U S WEST has standardized upon the use the HASB system which hassuccessfully placed millions of feet of optical-fiber cable.
