FUZZY CELLULAR SYSTEMS FOR IMAGE PROCESSING

In this paper a new family of discrete time non linear dynamical systems is introduced. The basic elements of these systems are called cells; these cells are identical, and can be thought as nodes in a rectangular grid; they interact with their neighbouring cells. The system dynamic is defined by a collection of fuzzy rules governing both the evolution of each cell and interconections between neighbouring cells. They have been applied to some image processing tasks such as noise removal from corrupted digital images (both grey-scale and colour images). The comparisons with traditional approaches have been included. In the following paragraphs the fuzzy systems are introduced and some examples of applications are presented.
