INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVE ON INTERCHANGEABILITYAND GAS QUALITY

In early 2004, the Natural Gas Council sponsored a broad forum of gas industry interests andrnstakeholders, "Natural Gas Council Plus," and convened two task groups to work on gasrninterchangeability and hydrocarbon dew point, respectively. Throughout 2004, these two taskrngroups worked on developing technical information, findings, and recommendations forrnpresentation to the Natural Gas Council Plus Policy Steering Committee and, ultimately, to thernU. S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in early 2005. The Gas InterchangeabilityrnTask Group formulated technical positions on gas interchangeability through consensusrnprocesses representing the interests of domestic and LNG suppliers, interstate pipelines, localrndistribution companies, and major end users and equipment manufacturers. This presentationrnsummarizes the findings and recommendations of the Gas Interchangeability Task Group as theyrnhave been presented to FERC, describes important issues yet to be resolved, and summarized keyrngaps in technical information on interchangeability that must be address in the next few yearsrnthrough targeted gas interchangeability research.
