Remote Field Eddy Current (RFEC) inspection technology was applied to a 12" test pipe andrnidentified all defects with no false positives. Adept Pro NDE analysis software was utilized andrnproduced accurate information about metal loss, depth of defect, and length of defect.rnComponents of an RFEC apparatus can be made significantly smaller than standard natural gasrnlocal distribution pipe diameters. RFEC inspection technology may therefore be adaptable torninspections of "unpiggable" pipes, such as pipes with short radius bends, plug valves, orrndiameter changes. GTI will begin work with the National Robotics Engineering Consortium atrnCarnegie Mellon to combine RFEC inspection technology with the Explorer II, a self-propelled,rnuntethered robot designed for pipe crawling.
